There has always been an interdependent and dynamic relationship between our work lives and our personal lives that impacts our overall well-being, health, and prosperity. The COVID-19 pandemic revealed the significance of this interdependent relationship and the impact the work environment has on the mental health and well-being of the workforce. Leaders at all levels of the organization are being called upon to identify ways to enable themselves and the workforce to thrive at work and in other aspects of their lives. Creating a healthy work environment that supports the health and well-being of the workforce as a leader can be especially challenging if your well-being and health are less than optimal or you are struggling with burnout.


According to Microsoft’s most recent Work Trend Index — a global survey of workers across multiple industries and companies published in September 2022 — more than half of managers (53%) report feeling burned out at work.

A recent survey from Slack found that burnout is on the rise globally, most significantly in the U.S., where 43% of middle managers reported burnout—more than any other worker group.

A longitudinal study conducted by American Organization of Nurse Leaders and published in 2022 indicates that 13% of nurse leaders intend to leave and 25% are considering leaving due to burnout and exhaustion (43%) and desire for work life balance (44%).
